Boys’ Basketball

 

The BDC saw decisive winners in the East and West, with Eldorado and Trico, respectively, during the winter season.

 

In the East, the Eldorado Eagles (8-2) held a two-game lead over the Hamilton County Foxes and Cairo Pilots (6-4).   Carmi-White County came in fourth at an even 5-5.  The Fairfield Mules had a conference record of 4-6 and won their regional.  Johnston City (1-9) took the rear of the conference.

 

In the West, Trico (10-0) was the dominant team.  Christopher took second at 7-3.  The Carterville Lions came in third with a 6-4 record.  Zeigler-Royalton remained at the .500 mark to take 4th.  Sesser-Valier (2-8) and the winless Elverado Falcons (0-10) were 5th and 6th.

Three boys from the BDC qualified for the IHSA Class A “3 Point Showdown”:  Timmy Steed (CWC), Shawn Menckowski (Chr), and Jesserick Pilgrim (Cai).  Jordan Cessna of Fairfield was selected to the IHSS Class A All-State team, and Christopher’s Nick Minor received special mention.

 

 

 

Girls’ Basketball

 

The girls’ conference had its own share of competitive teams ending the season with a tie in the East and a three-game separation in the West.

 

The Fairfield Lady Mules and Carmi-White County tied for tops in the East Division with conference records of 8-2.  Eldorado kept the league tight, making a strong showing at 6-4 for third.  Cairo came in fourth with 4-6.  Johnston City and Hamilton County shared the last two ranks tied at 2-8.

 

The Carterville Lady Lions won the West decisively with an undefeated 8-0 conference record and went on to win their regional, as well.  The ZRC girls made a strong showing, coming in 5-3.  Sesser-Valier was fourth at 3-5 and Eldorado, with no in-conference wins, took last.

Morgan Wheat of Fairfield and Lauren Mitchell of ZRC both received special mention on the girls’ IHSS Class A All-State team.

 

 

 

Wrestling

 

The 2007 Black Diamond Wrestling Tournament was easily the most competitive the conference has seen in several years.  Three of the four teams competing tied for first, and all showed valiant effort in an attempt to come out on top.

 

Johnston City defeated Carterville; Carterville beat Carmi-White County; and Carmi-White County won over Johnston City to make each of the three teams 2-1.  In the event of a tie, the total scores of the teams for the entire tournament are compared, and a winner is selected.  This year, it was Carmi-White County (at a total of 146) who got the nod (Carterville had 125 and Johnston City 110).  Fairfield failed to win any matches overall, picking up the rear of the conference.

 

Individual medallists for the event included James Morris (103, Car), Michael Masterson (112, CWC), Nathan Kubitz (119, JC), Cody Tatom (125, CWC), Marshall Petty (130, Car), Natalie Hendricks (135, Car), Damian Burnett (140, JC), Luke Marvel (145, JC), Nick Davie (152, JC), Gary Rhoades (160, Car), Zach Marvel (171, JC), Daniel Payne (189, JC), Shae Vail (215, JC), Gabe Potter (285, Ffd).
